Good Eats: Spanglish Catering Co.

We are over the moon to have the talented folks from Spanglish Catering Co. vending at this year’s Makers Market! If you haven’t tried their fresh, delicious offerings, get ready. This stuff’s good, y’all.

I asked Anna to explain what Spanglish is all about. Here’s what she had to say:

“The Spanglish Catering Company evolved from our love to cook and work together. We met in a small health spa kitchen in the San Francisco Bay area and were married in 2002.

I was born and raised in the Northern Michigan woods. Vicente was raised on a rural coffee farm in Guerro Mexico before moving to Mexico city. Together we spent a year in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We have tasted our way through 11 Mexican states and much of the U.S.

Our food is not wet burrito smothered with tasteless yellow cheese. Our food has evolved over ten years of cooking together, it is bright and flavorful. Our Tamales contain no hydrogenated lard, shortenings or trans fats. We make a Vegan and a vegetarian Tamale along with or more traditional chicken and pork.

Traditional Mexican Food is our starting point but we will bend the rules to make a recipe better. We love to mix in some American ingredients and cooking techniques. We really love what we do and it shows!”

Spanglish caters events from small dinner parties to larger gatherings. You can order their delicious Tamales by phone, facebook or email. They will deliver in the city limits or arrange for pickup. They also sell Tamales at the Saturday Market on the Grand Traverse Commons in the winter and the Monday afternoon Market at the Village May-Oct.

Is your mouth watering yet? Mine too. Come hungry on Saturday! —Kelly
