Traverse City is a town for people who love food and drink. Don’t believe me? Just ask livability.com, who recently named TC as one of the top 10 Foodie Cities in the United States. Thankfully, all this food-love translates to really awesome summer times. I mean, really rich, tasty, thirst-quenching summer times. I recently asked my fellow TCMM bloggers what their favorite summer eats and drinks are. Their (and my) answers follow.
1. Right Brain Brewery describes their Northern Hawk Owl Amber Ale as malty with a rich, biscuity finish. I describe it as my current favorite local craft brew. I really love that it’s not an overwhelming pair with light meals fresh off the grill, but I’m just as happy enjoying it all by its lonesome (preferably by an evening campfire). From sunsoaked days to crisp nights, this beer does summer right. —Kelly
2. Having a cone on the deck at Moomer’s has become as iconic a Traverse experience as Sleeping Bear Dunes. For us locals of course, the place has transcended “special treat” status and moved into full-on addiction territory. By now we’re all well aware that Cherries Moobilee was named the “Best,” but personally I’d take issue with that. I always pass up the fruit for Butter Pecan (it is seriously nuts) or Coffee Caramel, in fact even the straight up Vanilla is the best I’ve ever had… but more often than not I’m going for Cow Tracks. Peanut butter cups! Caramel! Fudge! Just typing the words c-o-w-t-r-a-c-k-s get’s me drooling…—Troy
3. My favorite local pick would be the Bubba burger Bubba’s! Bubba’s has the best burgers- on a savory bun and always served with their famous and special Bubba’s sauce. That sauce is magic I tell you. I haven’t had a burger yet than can compare to the Bubba burger. Bubba’s is always my go to place when I’m craving a nice juicy burger (this girl loves her meat!). Also, don’t forget to order extra fries, once you taste them you’ll be glad you ordered extra! —Margaret
4. A local must for me is grabbing a glass of wine or cider on the Left Foot Charley patio. You can never go wrong here. The staff is awesome (give Neal a high five, he will love you forever!) and the pours are good. Conveniently in town, I find this to be a great place to pop in to wind down and relax, whether it’s warm or cool. The cider is the best in the area and well their wines are always good. The best part: If you show up on Thursdays you can order up on their dinner menu supplied by K2 catering. It is always fun because you never know what will be on the menu. It could be anything between Lebanese, Thai, or Mexican. You just never know, and I always enjoy a good element of surprise. —Megan
How about you? What can’t you go a TC summer without gobbling up/drinking down? —Kelly
